Scotweb’s MD, Dr Nicholas J Fiddes, has written a free illustrated e-book, as a gift to help kilt lovers everywhere. In simple non-technical language it covers every aspect of buying a kilt, choosing your tartan, and accessorising an outfit for every occasion.
As a Governor of the Scottish Tartans Authority, and founder of the world’s first company to market kilts on the Internet (yes, Scotweb) no one is better qualified to offer such advice. Impartial and objective, this is a personal work and is not a Scotweb publication.
It was worth the money to see if this material was suitable for a dancer's kilt. It was and we are extremely happy to have ordered the full 7 yards at a great price.
Thanks, GR

Decent sized samples provided to give you a reasonable idea of how the pattern will look. Some other companies I've used will give you cheaper samples but the sample sizes are too small. Would definitely advise using this service to make sure you know what you're ordering.

It's extremely helpful having a bit of tartan to see before ordering a kilt. This is pricier than other sites I have looked at, but I knew I was ordering a kilt from here and was going to get that money back, so I could justify it. It's a shame that I won't get credit for the other swatches I ordered. It would be helpful to possibly get smaller swatches of other shades available in the same tartan (for example, swatches from different mills). There seemed to be about 20 versions of my tartan to choose from. The size is decent, but for the amount paid I would have expected a bit more.

A good-sized swatch that was well labeled. What more can you ask for?

I got a swatch of the same tartan as my kilt so I could attach it to my glengarry behind it's cap badge. It was well worth it and now my cap goes pleasantly with my kilt.

A swatch is a great way to check out the quality and colour match of a tartan. I was considering an 'Ancient' plaid and was astonished at the quality of the swatch. So impressed that I ordered a kilt in the material. As the particular material was at a premium price the ability to see and feel it in advance was a real advantage. And I received a partial credit for the swatch when I ordered my kilt--making it a very reasonable prospect. If you are considering buying a kilt (anywhere) take advantage of this service. You won't be disappointed.
